putting the sun in sunday

i took these all last sunday.

you see, i had heard that morning that my twin baby nephew’s had just been born. i wasn’t able to go visit them until the next day so i decided to head out and enjoy the january sunshine.

one hour later, one phone call with my other sister-in-law (we gushed about the babies, anxious to meet our sweet new nephews), and a roll of ektar 100 later, i headed home.

i was happy with myself for seizing the moment and enjoying the sun on that chilly afternoon.

the frost, however, is very timely. it IS january after all.

i just spent this evening, scanning these babies on my new scanner. not sure i did as good as the lab but oh well. it’s fun to see the images come to life this way and to have such control.

i hope your sunday night is just as lovely as mine. see you next week!

the crackle and the warmth

November 18 was our first fire in our fireplace. I can’t tell you how excited I was to hear it, see it, and smell it but even more so to feel it.

I grew up in houses that had fireplaces, my parents were quite fond of them. Heck, it was a christmas morning tradition. But as an adult, I haven’t thought much about having one. This apartment that we moved into in June just happens to have one. We love it. We have actually rearranged our living room since this occasion just so we can see the fire while sitting on the couch and watching TV. It’s so much more pleasant than commercial breaks…

hello from sunday night

i haven’t spent time here in a long while. i plan to change that.

honestly, i never know what to share here. part of me wants to get all personal and share what’s in my head, random bits and pieces even.

the other part of me wants to be more polished than that. to share just what seems all neat and right.

i guess i just need to find that balance.

i took all these autumnal images with my hasselblad and some expired film (a gift from my awesome friend steph) in my dad’s back yard in early november.

this is my grandma, i always try to sneak shots of her and my grandfather if i get a chance to when i am around them. i really prefer unposed photos, i love the honesty of an image like this. my dear sweet grandma, deep in thought.

these leaves are all gone now. just bare sticks of trees and bushes. crazy how fast nature changes. i’m always sad when all the leaves are off of a tree cause i know it will stay like that until march. spring is a long time off.

piles of leaves are everywhere lately

it’s hard to believe we are deep in the holiday season now.
i hope you all had a lovely, long thanksgiving weekend, i sure did.

lift up your eyes

well, that’s all i got for now. i’ll see you here again next week!

by car, by boat, by foot

Just over a week ago, my boyfriend Cal & I, my Dad & his girlfriend Diane, and a couple of my Dad’s running friends (Dana, Mary Lou, & Ron) all travelled up to Victoria, B.C. to run some road races. Cal & I ran the 8k road race; Dad, Dana & Ron ran the half-marathon. Mary Lou and Diane were our cheerleaders. The weather was amazing the whole time and we all had so much fun.

I took this whole roll that day starting with the ferry ride. I took many more photos along the way but I thought sharing this one roll, taken over about 8 hours on the first day of our trip was a nice way to tell this story. It has the feeling of an adventure.

It was a lovely 4.5 hour drive to Port Angeles, then an hour and a half ferry ride into Victoria. I fell a bit in love with the look of the water from the Ferry.

We got into Victoria around 3 p.m. We all stayed at the Empress(!) so we got off the ferry and checked right into our hotel.

How awesome is my boyfriend for carrying my bag there? He’s pretty awesome.

The shot below is the view from our room. I love all the ivy growing on the Empress. Such a gorgeous place.

And this next photo was the view from my Dad & Diane’s room. I wanted to go check out this little courtyard but never got a chance too. Next time!

Aren’t these old ships awesome? I would love to take a trip on one.

We took a trip to Spinnakers on one of the little harbor taxi’s, so fun!

Had to have a beer, to try out the local brews… I went for the tasting option. 4 beers instead of 1.

This was the view from our table at Spinnakers. Not too shabby.

We headed out just as the sun was setting. We had a long walk back to our hotel and once the sun was down, it really started to cool off.

It was a perfect first day in Victoria. I hope to share more photos from the trip here soon.

All photos in this post were made with my Olympus OM-2n, 50mm 1.8 lens and a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 film.

yay for friday

I’m heading up to British Columbia tomorrow morning. I am so excited for the run and to explore Victoria as an adult.

These photos I am sharing are outtakes from a roll of doubles… some times, things just don’t work out and we only get one photo in the image. Somehow, with this roll, I took over. These shots were taking during a weekend trip my boyfriend and I took with my younger brother and his wife up to Seattle for a pre-season Seahawks game. It’s so awesome to relive those times through these photos. We had a lot of fun.

. . .

Here are a couple of notable things I found…

1
Beautiful, stacking wine glasses? Be still my heart. Makes me want to drink more wine this autumn.
{I feel a little sheepish sharing things to buy on here but we all have wish-lists now, don’t we?}

2
How cool are these old letterheads? Makes me want to write more letters.

We’ll be taking a ferry up to Victoria tomorrow. It’s one of the things I am most excited about.
So here is a glimpse of a ferry trip through the eyes of Rachel of the blog elephantine.
I promise to take lots of photos along the trip and share them with you here.
. . .

I hope you have a great weekend!
