The first weekend in May was a double feature of my Mom’s 60th birthday and Mother’s day so my brother’s, Cal and I figured this was the perfect time to go visit her. My mother lives in a small town in Nevada called Hawthorne.

My mom has lived there for approximately 13 years… I’ve been there three times. So as I am sure you’ve guessed by now, it’s not my favorite place to visit. The town is depressing at every turn. It’s dying. It holds on by a thread that is an army depot base (you know… where they keep bombs) and a slots-only casino.

I saw this trip as an opportunity. I just knew that this town was a chance for some photographic awesomeness, especially of the black & white variety.

I’m not sure if I need to say this but this town does not have a good vibe to it. There is something off about it and I think the residents are aware of that. At first I thought this truck was funny and odd but now I think he’s on to something.

Seriously, Hawthorne could be a scene out of The Twilight Zone.

Maybe that’s because all my photos make it seem like we were the only ones there?
